Although CPRE Bedfordshire generally supports local renewable energy projects with community involvement, it believe that the site chosen for the farm is totally inappropriate.
The proposed site has a very steep gradient and this means that it cannot be effectively screened. If the solar farm goes ahead, we feel it will decimate the beautiful rural landscape in the area and the 19,000 solar panels will be seen for miles around.
The proposed site is also Grade 3a agricultural land which is defined by the government as “the best and most versatile” land which should be reserved for agricultural use except for the most compelling reasons, and we don’t believe that this is one of them.
