Proposed Chaulington development at former vehicle storage site

Tuesday, 02 September 2014 12:42

CPRE Bedfordshire has expressed concern that the proposed Chaulington development, at the Chaul End hamlet between Caddington and Luton, could lead to the urbanisation of this rural area.

Although we do not object to the development of the former GM vehicle storage site, the proposal does fall within current Green Belt land. CPRE Bedfordshire is concerned that building on this formerly developed site could lead to further "Bushwood" type proposals that could effectively turn the village of Caddington into a suburb of Luton.

We also ask that any upgrades to the road between Caddington and Chaul End is done with the minimal need for urbanising features such as hedgerow removal, lighting and signage on this rural road, to maintain a defined separation between the new settlement and the village of Caddington.

This site is now formally incorporated as a Strategic Site for housing within CBC's latest version of its Draft Local Plan.
